  • Mike Parker-Bray We're trying a new approach to explaining what happens when the train stops at Coombe Junction on the Looe Valley Line. Hornby plus the Hokey Cokey! Watch the video below (filmed in our office!). It will be part of our upcoming heritage project about the line.

We're running our Take your Teddy on the train promotion at the moment (thanks to ACoRP Small Grants' Fund) and put £20 behind a facebook boosted post campaign to target people in and around the Maritime Line (Truro to Falmouth line). So far, with still £8 to spend, the post has reached over 5,860 people with a lot of that being organic reach due to 55 shares of the post. If you have an event you want to publicise this really is the way to target people. We'll have to wait until we get the journey figures to see actual results but the campaign has also resulted in 8 new likes of our page as well, so all good so far.

in the topic Public Toilets on unstaff stations in the forum Station improvements
Surely the easiest thing is to make them a pay for loo, the money collected could be used to pay for improvements at the station, people would then be less likely to have a moan about paying if they knew the money was going to help with facilities, even if it was only enough to pay for planters/plants (btw i just typed mooney by mistake but decided to delete it!).

It would be great if we could tag people into conversations like you can in facebook- I think this would alert certain people to a topic which they could assist with in a nice simple way. Thanks

in the topic Social Media around the Festive season in the forum Social media and websites
The festive season is officially upon us (I will now admit this seeing as it is 1st December- still not done any Christmas shopping yet though!) and it presents a great opportunity to promote your branch lines. From today I will be posting ideas of events, markets, seasonal events etc that you can get to by train all around our patch every day until Christmas. The theme will be 'enjoy a Cosy Christmas'. Using facebook is a great way to do this and costs nothing or very little, apart from a bit of time and some forward planning. You could even bring your followers into the discussion by asking them for their top tips as well. We'll track the campaign and report back on results.

in the topic Who's got Santa Claus visiting this year? in the forum Community Rail events
Maybe because it has been so mild Graham, people haven't been thinking about Christmas yet. We're supposed to have a cold snap this weekend so it may be the time to do some targeted social media posts? Have you got any nice images of the line/area covered in snow?

  • THE BUS THAT MEETS THE TRAIN
    12 members
The train arriving at the railway station is one component of the overall journey from A to B. To continue from the station the bus frequently has a vital role to play - it may be a dedicated rail-link bus or just a bus that passes by the end of the road. Both such are often sadly lacking in rural areas though. So let's share and promote good examples of where the bus meets the train . . .
